Jack the Ripper is a notable serial killer who preyed on prostitutes. The victims throats were slit and victims were often mutilated. The nickname came from someone claiming to be the murderer who sent in a letter to a local newspaper.

Fort Myers police believe that 8 bodies discovered in a wooded area outside of town is the work of a serial killer. Not much information is known about the victims, or the serial killer.

3 Herbert Richard Baumeister

Herb Baumeister was an alleged serial killer from suburban Indiana outside of Indianapolis. He was the founder of Walmarts in Indiana. He committed suicide before he could be brought to trial, and never confessed to the crimes he was alleged to have committed. They still remain a mystery.

Ted Bundy, aka the Campus Killer preyed on innocent victims between 1974 and 1978. He escaped from county jails on two occassions before finally justice caught up to him in February 1978. He finally confessed to over 30 murders at that time but many more people believe he committed more.

Jeffrey Dahmer was a Wisconsin based Serial Killer. Jeffrey Dahmer murdered 17 men and boys in downtown Milwaukee and also was a sexual cannibal. He eventually was caught when a victim managed to escape and alert authorities.

6 John Gacy

John Wayne Gacy was convicted and later executed for the rape and murder of 33 boys and young men between 1972 and 1978. He was finally caught and convicted in 1978.

7 Gary Ridgway

Gary Ridgway was known as the Green River Killer. He murdered numerous women in Washington during the 1980s and 1990s utilizing torture, kidnapping, violence, and suffocation. He often preyed on sex workers in and around Washington.
