Ashford University traces its beginnings to a junior college founded by the Sisters of St. Francis in 1918 known as Mount St. Clare College. After a series of developments and name changes, it became known by its present name when it was acquired by a higher education organization - the Bridgepoint Education, Inc. Its campus is located at Clinton, Iowa.
