Birmingham-Southern College

A private, liberal arts institution affiliated with the United Methodist Church, Birmingham-Southern College situates itself in Arkadelphia Road, Birmingham, Alabama. It has more than 50 programs of study as well as interdisciplinary and specially-individualized majors plus dual-degree programs. Its wide range of educational offering seeks to support the varied interests of prospective students.

Birmingham-Southern College offers undergraduate degrees in Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Music Education and Bachelor of Science. Its graduate program consists of the Master of Arts in Public and Private Management. The courses of study include 26 disciplinary majors, 12 interdisciplinary majors, 21 disciplinary minors and 3 interdisciplinary minors. It also has a constantly expanding Study Abroad Program.

The college follows the 4-1-4 academic calendar wherein students enroll in 4 classes in the fall semester, 1 for the January interim term and 4 in the spring semester. The student population of Birmingham-Southern is quite diverse. Classes are small with a student/faculty ratio of 12:1. This facilitates personal interaction between students and professors.

Estimated tuition and fees for one year amounts to approximately $ 36,000.00 including the tuition of $ 25,800.00, residence hall $ 5,000.00, books and supplies of $ 1,200.00, meal plans for $ 2,800.00 and mandatory fee of $ 1,022.00. Students incur the cost of $ 35.00 for automobile registration. Students can work in consultation with faculty members to look over the various disciplines offered to provide assistance in designing individualized majors. First year foundation courses are provided for the purpose of building intellectual and academic communities among freshmen. The physical environment of the college is beautiful and modern with a lake and park area undergoing construction.
