Caribbean University was established in 1969 as the Caribbean Junior College in the municipality of Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Nine years later, It was renamed as the Caribbean University College upon accreditation by the Council on Higher Education of Puerto Rico and Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Finally, it was renamed the Caribbean University in 1990 after it started to offer graduate degree programs.
Aside from the campus in Bayamon, it operates three other independent, coeducational campuses: the Caribbean University at Carolina which opened in 1979, the Caribbean University at Ponce (1985) and the Caribbean University at Vega Baja (1977).
It offers various Associate, Bachelor's, and Master's degrees and an assortment of courses. These degrees and courses include Accounting, Biology, Biological Sciences, Business Administration, Business Management, Civil Engineering, Computer Programming, Computer Systems Analysis, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice, Drafting and Design Technology, Electrical Engineering, English, General Education (Elementary Education, Secondary and Special), Industrial Engineering, Managerial Economics, Marketing and Marketing Management, Nursing, Speech-Language Pathology, Police Science, Secretarial, Social Work, Spanish, and Speech Therapy. Caribbean University in Puerto Rico recently added a degree in Doctorate of Philosophy.

Average tuition costs almost $9400 with full-time tuition amounting to around $4100 (plus mandatory fees) and room and board at $5,300. Federal financial aid is readily available.
