Eckerd College

Eckerd College was founded in 1958 as the Florida Presbyterian College. However, due to the commitments and gifts provided by Jack M. Eckerd that have ensured the institution’s continuous delivery of academic excellence, the college’s name was changed in 1972 to Eckerd College. The honored individual was a prominent civic leader and businessman in Florida and a former member of the college’s Board of Trustees. Today, Eckerd College is a private, coeducational college of liberal arts and sciences.

Located at 4200 54th Avenue South, St. Petersburg, Florida; Eckerd College takes full advantage of its 188-acre waterfront property to provide an exceptional learning experience for its students. Degrees offered by the college include certificate, diploma, associate, transfer associate, terminal associate, bachelor’s, post- bachelor’s certificate, master’s, post-master’s certificate, doctoral and first professional. Eckerd College has distinguished itself in the fields of civic engagement, organizational studies, creative writing, international relations and global affairs, environmental studies and marine science. There are about 40 majors to choose from leading to the degrees of Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science.

The college’s student body is made up of about 1,840 residential students coming from at least 45 states and 35 foreign countries. Its Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning Programs have approximately 1,000 adult learners presently enrolled. It has partnered with the New York Institute of Finance to offer courses that would assist students in better understanding how business and finance works in the real world. Eckerd College also offers a study abroad program in partnership with educational institutions in other countries such as Japan, Korea, England, France, Northern Ireland and HongKong, among others.

Total educational cost for a year is $ 41,162.00 inclusive of tuition, fees, room and board although 96% of students are receiving some form of financial aid in the average of $ 21,800.00. Student/faculty ration is 13:1.
