Puffy eyes may not be considered a serious medical condition, but anyone who has had puffy eyes knows just how inconvenient they can be. In terms of aesthetic value, puffy eyes are just something to be done away with - and quickly!
You have to realize, however, that while puffy eyes are normally not a cause for concern, you might have to see a doctor in certain cases. For example, if your eyes are puffy for prolonged periods of time, and you also feel other symptoms such as eye pain or soreness and blurry vision, there is no question about seeking medical help.
In general, though, puffy eyes can be treated rather easily. One common treatment is to make sure that you get enough rest and that your eyes are not under excessive strain. Regular sleeping patterns will do you wonders! A quick fix is to use a cold compress. It works just like it does on any other inflammation - it reduces the puffiness in a short period of time. Alternatively, you can use fruit/vegetable slices - potatoes, cucumbers, and apples work really well. Remember to chill the slices before applying them on your eyes.
If you do not have any fruit or vegetables in the fridge, check for tea bags. Wet two tea bags in cold water and place one on each eye. You can leave these alternative cold compresses for 10 minutes at a time. The puffiness of your eyes should be significantly reduced by then.
You may also opt for over-the-counter eye creams which are formulated to reduce puffy eyes. These creams usually contain vitamin E and aloe vera, among other ingredients. They work quite effectively to reduce puffiness over time.
