Jacksonville State University

Jacksonville State University (JSU) is a public, comprehensive educational institution that seeks to equip its graduates with the skills required for employment while actively supporting related scholarly and service activities. Jacksonville State University credits its beginnings as the Jacksonville State Normal School created by the Alabama Legislature in 1883. The Normal School eventually became the Jacksonville State Teachers College in 1930 and the Jacksonville State College in 1957. It gained university status in 1966, thus adapting its present name. Jacksonville State University is located at 700 Pelham Road North, Jacksonville, Alabama.

Jacksonville State University offers its programs through its College of Arts and Sciences, College of Commerce and Business Administration, College of Education and Professional Studies, College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Department of Military Science and the School of Graduate Studies and Continuing Education. Aside from on-campus classes, JSU also offers online classes for both undergraduate and graduate work. Online degrees and programs are offered in the fields of Business, Computer Science, Emergency Management, Family and Consumer Sciences, Geography, Health/Physical Education and Recreation, Nursing as well as Technology and Engineering. Videoconferencing classes are conducted by Jacksonville State University at various locations.

Undergraduate tuition for traditional hours cost $ 208.00 per hour for in-state students and $ 416.00 per hour for out-of-state students. Graduate tuition rates for traditional hours are $ 274.00 and $ 548.00 per hour respectively, for in-state and out-of-state students. Distance Learning Programs cost $ 258.00 per hour for undergraduate and $ 324.00 per hour for graduates. Campus housing is comprised of six apartment complexes and eight residence halls, all within walking distance from the main campus.

In 2003, the Jacksonville State University Higher Education Consortium was established. It presently houses the JSU McClellan Center and the Gadsden State Community College (GSCC)-McClellan Campus. JSU programs are fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
