Jones International University (JIU) is recognized as the first entirely virtual institution in the U.S. to receive regional accreditation. Founded by cable magnate Glenn Jones, JIU traces its roots to Mind Extension University which offered courses via television to more than 30 colleges and universities. Jones recognized the potential of the Internet and established JIU in 1993.
The university was accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools in 1999. Through its School of Education and School of Business, JIU offers online programs including the Master of Education, Education Specialist, Doctorate of Education, Certificates in Education as well as a wide array of business programs. It is exceptionally proud of its ranking as one of the Top 10 Online Universities in the World in the 2008 Best and Worst in Online Degree Programs.
Each school has its own specific admissions requirements which can be verified through Admissions Counselors who are readily available to assist prospective students. All applicants to the online programs are required to complete their application requirements at a given time frame. Failure to do so would render the application expired.
The university’s Financial Aid Advising Center helps students explore all possible options within which to fund their education. Some of the financial aid options include federal grants and loans, other educational loans and scholarships. Jones International University’s tuition and fees are comparable to that of other top-level, accredited online universities. Tuition rate is $ 430.00 per credit hour for undergraduate programs or $ 700.00 per credit hour for graduate programs.
