Lake Chapala

Lake Chapala is the largest natural freshwater lake in Mexico. It is roughly 30 miles south of Guadalajara in Jalisco. In recent years many American and Canadian retirees have claimed the lake side of Chapala as home in the town of Ajijic, Jalisco, located just west of the city of Chapala. It has one of the best climates in the world. With a maximum average temperature of 85 and lows only going into the 50's it's pretty amazing weather. It does have a rainy season June through September with up tp 24 inches of rain in those four months. There are roughly 45,000 people living in the Chapala and Ajijic area, and many of them are North Americans expats.
