Louisiana State University (LSU)

Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College, better known as Louisiana State University or LSU is a public university located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Founded in 1853, it is the flagship institution of the Louisiana State University System and is the largest institution of higher education in terms of enrollment in the state of Louisiana. On its main campus alone stands 250 buildings in Renaissance-style architecture.

Academically, LSU is divided into several Schools and Colleges, some of which – like the E.J. Ourso College of Business and the Paul M. Herbert Law Center – have received national recognition. The university offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees through its various colleges and schools of Agriculture, Art & Design, Arts & Sciences, Basic Sciences, Business, Coast and Environment, Continuing Education, Education, Engineering, Graduate School, Honors College, Library & Information Science, Mass Communications, Music & Dramatic Arts, Social Work, University College and Veterinary Medicine.

Cost of tuition and fees for the spring 2010 semester is US$2,618.70 for fulltime, resident undergraduate students enrolled in 15 hours of credit and for non-resident undergraduates, US$7,193.70. Part-time, resident undergraduates, on the other hand, pay US$1,838 while part-time non-residents, US$5,594. For graduate students, the cost of tuition and fees for fulltime, resident students is US$3,078.70 and for fulltime, non-residents, US$7,653.70. Part-time resident graduate students pay US$1,949 and non-residents, US$4,737. Those enrolled in Veterinary Medicine are charged tuition and fee cost of US$7,347.70 if they are fulltime, resident students and US$19,447.70 if they are non-residents. There are no programs for part-time programs for students of Veterinary Medicine.

To help defray the cost of attendance at LSU, financial aid is extended to the students via loans, grants and scholarships.
