Markeisje Dog Breed

This is a new breed developed from a Spaniel and Poodle and originated from the Netherlands. Although it has been in existence for a long time as a companion dog in farms around the country, it has just been recognized by the Dutch Kennel Club. It is also called the Dutch Tulip Hound or Hollandse Tulphond in its native Dutch country. It is a medium-sized dog weighing up to 13 pounds and a height of 16 inches. It has a long skull with a flat dome. It has a medium-length and narrow muzzle and a black nose. The ears are long, pendant, hangs close to the head and is feathered. Well-balanced and in good proportion, it has strong front legs and a narrow chest. The tail is well-feathered and long and the coat is long and silky with feathering. The colour is typically black with white markings on the chest, tip of the tail and the on the feet.

The Markeisje is trained to be a retriever and a gundog given its agility but it is also an excellent household pet. This spaniel-type dog is happy and playful, and intelligent. They are easy to train and responds well to commands given by its owner. They are known to be friendly with everyone and this can be reinforced with early training and socialization. They enjoy running and need to be mentally stimulated but as their coat is not weather-resistant they should be kept indoors. There are no specific or serious health problems for this breed and may live up to 15 years.
