Miniature Pinscher Dog Breed

Often called the “King of the Toys”, the terrier breed is a native of Germany. It is called “Zwerpinscher” where “zwerg” in German means “dwarf” and “pinscher” means biter, referring to the biting action that the breed uses when holding down rats in a pinching manner. It was originally bred for the purpose of hunting down small pests in the open fields. It was developed from the Dachshund, Italian Greyhound and the short haired German Pinscher. Resembling a small Doberman, it stands at a height of 10 to 12 inches and weighs from 8 to 10 pounds. It has a skull that appears to be flat and tapers forward to a strong muzzle. Its eyes are dark and slightly oval in shape. The hig set ears are either cropped or left natural. It has small feet that are cat-like in shape and the coat is smooth, hard and lays close to the body. Typical colours on the Miniature Pinscher are black with rust markings, chocolate with tan red or red with black hairs.

The Min Pin is a wonderful family companion with talents such as competitive obedience, watchdog and feats of agility. They are loyal to their owners, spirited and alert, intelligent and brave. It is a courageous little breed and is extremely protective of its owners. They can jump very high, sometimes even jumping up to five feet in the air. They are hardy dogs that are generally healthy but because they have close-lying hair they need to be protected from the cold. They have a long life expectancy of 15 or more years.
