Miniature Schnauzer Dog Breed

The Miniature Schnauzer is a native of Germany and was developed by crossing Standard Schnauzers with the Affenpinscher and most likely the Poodle. This terrier breed is one of the most popular dog breed around the world. The name “Schnauzer” comes from the German word “schnauze” meaning “muzzle”. This small but sturdily built dog weighs from 10 to 15 pounds and has a height range of 12 to 14 inches. Its body is square and its head is rectangular in shape. It has a strong muzzle that ends in a blunt and it has a bushy beard, moustache and eyebrows. The ears are set high and typically cropped to a point. Its tail is cropped, set high and carried erect. The eyes are deep-set, small and dark brown in colour. It has two layers of coat made of a wiry outer coat and a soft undercoat. Colours range from black, white, salt and pepper and black and silver.

The Miniature Schnauzer was used as a ratter but nowadays it is being kept as a companion dog. It is a versatile breed with talents ranging from hunting, tracking, watch dog, competitive obedience and performing tricks. Intelligent and energetic, their playful spirit and docile temperament makes them easy to get along with. They are good with children and they like being around humans. They are also affectionate, devoted and a good travel companion. They are prone to gain weight easily so their deit must be closely watched. They can live up to about 15 years and typically shows no signs of age until quite late in life.
