3 Dead at Alabama College Shooting

At approximately 4:10 p.m. today at the University of Alabama, a female staff initially identified as Dr. Amy Bishop, opened fire and killed three people. Conflicting reports indicate that at least 2 other people were critically injured. Trent Willis, chief of staff and communications for the city of Huntsville and representative for Mayor Tommy Battle, claimed that "several others had been shot."

The female suspect and perhaps her husband are in police custody relating to the shooting but no official charges have been made. Officials believe the shooter's motive was related to tenure. The campus has been locked down.

The suspect and victims have not been officially identified but it has been confirmed that all were University of Alabama faculty. A second suspect, identified only as a Tennessee football player and perhaps Bishop's husband, has been arrested and is in police custody.

In an official statement from the University of Alabama, there was no mention of when classes would resume or when counseling would be offered to assist students and faculty.
