Aretha Franklin, the sixty eight year old "Queen of Soul," has announced that she has pancreatic cancer. Franklin canceled public appearances and scheduled concerts last month and had a "highly successful" operation in Detroit, Michigan, on December 2, 2010.
The singer has found a tremendous amount of support from her fans, friends, and family and remains hopefully optimistic since receiving the diagnosis. Following last week's surgery, Franklin has held firm to her faith that "God is in control" and issued a message to her fans stating "All prayers are good."
Pancreatic cancer is one of the more serious forms of cancer and has a survival rate of just 6 percent after five years.
