Chinese Electric Car Manufacturer BYD Establishes U.S. Headquarters in Los Angeles

BYD, short for "Build Your Dreams", announced the creation of a North American headquarters in Los Angeles, California. The facility will house R&D, sales and marketing, but will not be used for manufacturing. BYD has indicated that a manufacturing facility in California may be in the works at a later date.

BYD builds electric and plug in hybrid vehicles, most notably the e6 crossover. Designed to appeal to a broader audience tha other electric vehicles (such as Nissan's Leaf), the e6 features seating for five, a range of up to 250 miles and a top speed of 87 miles per hour. The e6's unique battery system can be quick charged to 80% of capacity in as little as 10 minutes.
