Chrysler to Build Eight Speed Transmission

Chrysler is funding a major upgrade to their Kokomo, Indiana, manufacturing facility, where they will begin to build the industry's first eight speed automatic transmission.  The eight speed transmission will optimize fuel mileage and ensure smooth power delivery across a wide range of vehicles.  With EPA mandates to improve Corporate Average Fuel Economy to 35 mpg by 2016, manufacturers are taking every step possible to squeeze more MPG from their products.  The eight speed automatic transmission presents a viable alternative to Continuously Variable Transmissions, whose artificial and disconnected feel rarely wins praise from drivers.
