Covelli Centre in Youngtown, Ohio sold out Elton John concert tickets in a record breaking three minutes at Ticketmaster.com. Tickets went on sale Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. and the $39-$89 range tickets for a May 1st concert were purchased rapidly online. Over 175 people gathered in the wee hours of March 12, 2010 to wait in person at the Covelli Centre box office though some $139 tickets were reserved by the box office for those willing to pay the steep price.
Eric Ryan, the Covelli Centre's executive director, witnessed over 50 people walk away from the long line of people waiting to purchase tickets in the $39-$89 range when it was announced they had sold out. Ryan hopes that Elton John's performance will help the faciltiy out of a massive $11.9 million dollar debt. Covelli recently hosted a circus and the Harlem Globetrotters in an attempt to cover the facility's debts. Ryan anticipates that with big named performances "We'll continue to get these kinds of acts to come. Elton John coming to the Covelli Centre will bring us to a new level."
