While Emily Kraus and her boyfriend were en route to a Dave Matthews Band concert in Hershey, Pennsylvania on Saturday, July 13, 2013, they happily became heroes when they "saved" the stranded 46 year old musician While Matthews enjoyed a pre-show ride on his bike, he encountered mechanical difficulties and broke down along the side of the road. That's when Kraus and her boyfriend pulled up.
Per an interview with CBS WHP-TV, Matthews and Kraus offered a statement regarding the unusual incident. Kraus offered: "We saw him [Dave Matthews] on the other side of the road and we pulled my car in here. And he picks up his bike and throws it up here." The seven minute ride back to the show was one reality that few fans realize. Kraus offered: "We didn't know how to make conversation with him in fact, so we were talking about his tour and where he had come from. He had just been in Cincinnati and he said 'I'm taking a short break after this one because I have to drop my daughters off at camp.' He was just a very humble guy." The pair were later invited to dinner, given back stage passes, and Matthews signed their ticket stubs with "Thanks for the ride."
Matthews addressed the crowd at the Hershey Park Stadium during his performance with: "I did not have a cell phone on the bicycle. So I thought, 'S**t.' And then a nice lady named Emily rode up in a red car with a bicycle rack on it and gave me a ride on to the gig."
