Dixie Carter's cause of death was cancer. The 70 year old actress best known for her role as Julie Sugarbaker on the sitcom "Designing Women" passed away April 10, 2010 because of complications of endometrial cancer.
Carter was born born in McLemoresville, Tennessee,and grew up in Memphis. She later attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and Southwestern at Memphis, which is now known as Rhodes College. Carter then went on to become an American screen, stage, and film actress. Her first role was in the play "Carousel" in Memphis. Carter then went on to star in the television programs: "Out of the Blue," "On Our Own," "Diff'rent Strokes" and "Filthy Rich." Her most recent role was guest starring on ABC's Desperate Housewives. Her final film was in 2009 also starring her husband entitled "That Evening Sun."
The actress leaves behind her husband of twenty six years, Hal Halbrook, and two daughters from a previous marriage to Arthur Carter named Mary Dixie and Ginna.
