Real estate mogul Donald Trump has been declared a racist by CBS Evening News host Bob Schieffer following a statement regarding President Obama on Wednesday evening. The scathing comment followed Trump's fire-starting suggestion that Obama may not have had the grades to be accepted into the Harvard Law School. Early Wednesday, Trump offered in an interview: "I have friends who have smart sons with great marks, great boards, great everything and they can't get into Harvard. We don't know a thing about this guy. There are a lot of questions that are unanswered about our President."
Schieffer fired back during Wednesday's Evening News: "That's just code for saying he got into law school because he's black. This is an ugly strain of racism that's running through this whole thing." Trump shot back via statement issued through TMZ: "That is a terrible statement for a newscaster to make. I am the last person that such a thing should be said about."
Trump went on to answer questions from TMZ indicating that perhaps affirmative action may have been involved in Obama's Harvard acceptance. Trump told TMZ: "Affirmative action is out there. It's a problem that is available. But I have no idea whether it applies in this case. I'm not suggesting anything." Trump also would not state whether he supports affirmative action and merely responded: "Grades are the least important aspect of somebody being president. It's not a big subject for me."
