An earthquake shakes Los, Angeles, California in the early hours of Monday, June 7, 2010. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that a series of 3 small in magnitude earthquakes occurred near Santa Monica, California just twenty miles from L.A.'s Civic Center. The first registered at a magnitude of 3.6 at 2:17 a.m. centered 4 miles west of Redondo Beach at a depth of 8 miles. The second quake registered at a magnitude of 1.8 at 4:11 a.m. The third registered at 2.1 magnitude at 4:51 a.m.
The quakes were described by a Santa Monica police officer as "very brief" and "mild jolt[s]." Residents in West Los Angeles, California reported the quakes were "widely felt".
