Egg Recall Expands to More Than Half a Billion

The salmonella outbreak has already infected more than a 1000 people and continues to inflict others. The egg recall has reached a staggering half a billion nationwide and people are actually scared of having eggs for fear of contracting the salmonella infection. The latest figure that precisely explains the recalls of contaminated eggs stands at 550 million as of now.
The particular type of Salmonella poisoning is known as Salmonella Enteritidis and is same across the board at all the farms that have tested the eggs for contamination.
Iowa is the leading egg producing state in America and on average the Americans consume 228 million eggs per day. The egg recalls brands are as follows: Hillandale Farms, Sunny Farms, Sunny Meadow, Wholesome Farms and West Creek. The egg recalls is applicable on all the eggs that were sold between April and August of 2010.
According to the report of FDA, the infected eggs have been sold to various grocery and retail stores in the regions of including Arkansas, California, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Texas, and Wisconsin.
Although thoroughly cooking an egg can successfully kill the salmonella bacteria, it is recommended that the eggs be either returned or thrown away.
