Facebook "Attack a Teacher Day" Leads to Six Arrests

The Nevada Appeal in Carson City, Nevada arrested six girls for their connection to an "Attack A Teacher Day" Facebook event scheduled for Friday between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. One of the girls invited 100 students from two Nevada middle schools to participate in the "Attack A Teacher Day" event while the five others face allegations of posting online threats against specific teachers. The girls all face the misdemeanor charge of communicating threats but because of their ages, their names have not been released.

The girls stated the Facebook event was just a joke. Eighteen students from middle schools in Carson City reportedly agreed to participate in the event. A concerned parent informed police of the event and police responded quickly by contacting the parents of students who accepted the invitations.

All of the students involved in the incident were 12 or 13 years old. The girls have been released to their parents' custody and suspended from school for three to five days. The Facebook post was taken down by the parent of the girl who originated the event.
