Facebook User Simone Back Posts Suicide Message, 1,000+ Friends Disregard

On Christmas Day, forty two year old Simone Back posted her last message on Facebook and over 1,000 of her "friends" disregarded the message. At 10:53 p.m. on Back's last living day, she wrote as her Facebook status: "Took all my pills be dead soon bye bye everyone."

Back had 1,048 friends and not one of them intervened. Some even taunted her, rendering her a "liar," harshly stated her demise was "her choice," and one even commented: "She ODs all the time and she lies." One hundred and forty eight messages followed Back's suicide post and exchanged comments regarding Back's post.

Several of Back's long distance Facebook friends sent her messages imploring her for an address and phone number to send help but those nearby did nothing. One of Back's friends did step forward and text Back's mother, Jennifer Landridge, but when authorities arrived at the Montague Street, Brighton residence, Back had already passed.

Mrs. Landridge posted the following message on her daughter's Facebook page: "My daughter Simone passed away today so please leave her alone now." No one commented to Mrs. Landridge's post. Back's page has been removed.
