The FBI has issued a dire warning regarding Mattel's latest design: Barbie Video Girl. The $49.99 dollar Barbie has a 30 minute video chip which investigators fear could become fodder for pedophiles.
The FBI's warning stated: "Law enforcement is encouraged to be aware of unconventional avenues for possible production and possession of child pornography, such as the Barbie Video Girl...FBI investigation has revealed instances where an individual convicted of distributing child pornography had given a Barbie doll to a 6 year-old-girl."
The Barbie Video Girl complete with a video camera tucked in Barbie's necklace. Barbie Video Girl also has a USB cord which easily allows videos to be upload or review footage and "watch from a doll's eye view."
Mattel has responded to the FBI warning with "The FBI is not reporting that anything has happened. We understand the importance of child safety- it is our number one priority."
Despite the FBI warning, Mattel's Barbie Video Girl has been nominated for the 2011 Toy of the Year Award.
