Former world champion boxer Arturo Gatti was found dead in a hotel room in the northeastern state of Pernambuco.
Police investigator Edislon Alves told The Associated Press that Gatti’s body was discovered this morning in the posh seaside resort of Porto de Galinhas, where he arrived on Friday with his wife and 1-year-old son.
It was unclear how the 37-year-old Canadian died. CBC News reports he was found in his underwear, with blood stains on his neck and the back of his head.
Italian-born Gatti, nicknamed Thunder, was IBF Super featherweight champion in 1995 and WBC Super lightweight champion in 2004. He retired in 2007.
