A small plane split a home in two on 4/17/09 in Oakland FL, near Fort Lauderdale. The house burst into flames and neighbors who witnessed the crash called authorities. The house was luckily empty at the time of the crash, but the home is a charred mess and it is expected that nothing can be recovered from it.
The pilot knew after take-off that something was wrong and contacted the flight deck to land early, but crashed before it was able to make an emergency landing. It departed from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, which primarily has small private planes and jets. This was the fifth crash associated with that airport in 12 years. The plane was a Cessna 421, which have had 12 fatal accidents since 2004.
