Four U.S. citizens are dead following the hijack of their yacht by pirates off of the coast of Somalia. The incident occurred on Friday near the coast of Oman when more than one dozen pirates overtook the Quest vessel as it made its way toward the Somali coast.
The Quest was chartered by Scott Adam and his wife, Jean, who lived aboard the vessel and spent six months every year docked in Marina del Rey, California, and Phyllis Macay and Bob Riggle, residents of Seattle, Washington. The vessel was shadowed by a U.S. Navy Warship and witnesses report that the four Americans on board were shot and killed by the pirates. Following the gunshots, workers among the warship reportedly "took action" and managed to shoot or capture the pirates on board.
