Rooney Mara will be The Girl in the upcoming film “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.”
The actress has been less popular, and has been cast as the namesake in the film, which will be the first work in the internationally successful thriller series by the late Stieg Larsson.
The film will be directed by David Fincher, who has previously directed amazing films like “Fight Club,” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.”
Daniel Craig signed to play the financial investigative reporter, who faces down deadly threats and sleeps around earlier, in July.
Mara will be cast as Lisbeth Salander, who is an abused, antisocial, Asperger-ish, computer-hacker genius. Fans dismissed ideas about Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman to play the role as they found the actresses too good-looking and busty to play the flat-chested, scowling flyweight.
But Mara was opted over other contenders, which included Ellen Page, Kristen Stewart, and Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan. Last week the choice reportedly had been down to her, French actress Lea Seydoux and Australian actress' Sarah Snook and Sophie Lowe.
Fincher said Mara seemed like an actress on the verge of a breakout. She is also starring in his upcoming movie about Facebook, “The Social Network,” with Justin Timberlake.
Mara’s physical features fits perfectly with the role, as the actress is a petite-5’2” brunette in her 20s who has had plenty of experience facing up to much bigger men.
Noomi Rapace played the role of Lisbeth Salander in the Swedish version of the film.
