Many consider Google to be the most powerful company in the world. In many parts of the globe, Google basically controls the way information flows.
Given Google's importance to the modern economy, it should come as no surprise that the United States federal government would view an attack against Google as a national security threat. Especially when the attack originated in China, largely thought to be a looming threat to America's global dominance.
Because of the threat of cyber warfare and the need for tightening security and monitoring, Google is partnering up with the National Security Agency (NSA) to help stage off any future attacks.
Many privacy concerns arise out of this new partnership between the world's most powerful surveillance organization (NSA) and world's most dominant search engine (Google). However, proponents of the partnership suggest that it is a strictly defensive move designed to prevent attack and not to infringe upon the privacy of every day people.
