Punxsutawney Phil, the famous groundhog who predicts the weather each year, saw his shadow today. According to a German legend, that means that we're in for a longer winter in 2010. Six weeks to be exact.
The official Groundhog's day event takes place in Gobbler's Knob in Jefferson County Pennsylvania. Groundhog's Day 2010 turned out just like the majority of them: the groundhog saw his shadow. In fact, since 1887 there have only been 15 times when he hasn't seen his shadow.
Contrary to intuition, a sunny day on Groundhog's Day basically means that winter will last an extra six weeks.
