In a recent interview for the UK's Sunday Times, actress Emma Thompson officially "pardoned" actress Helena Bonham Carter for the affair Helena had with Emma's then husband Kenneth Branagh. The statement of forgiveness involved Emma's wise words that it is all "blood under the bridge. You can't hold on to anything like that. It's pointless. I haven't got the energy for it. Helena and I made our peace years and years ago."
Emma also confessed that the emotions she felt during that troubling time were surprisingly good for her career. She stated: "I've had so much bloody practice at crying in a bedroom,, then having to go out and be cheerful, gathering up pieces of my heart and putting them in a drawer" that she applies the what she's learned from her personal experiences when the camera is rolling.
The affair caused Emma to end her six year union with her then husband during 1995 after Helena and Branagh engaged in extramarital activities while filming the 1994 film Frankenstein. It seems that once Emma and Branagh's marriage was officially kaput, Helena and he stepped into the spotlight with their relationship which lasted five years. Thompson also moved on following the split, wed Greg Wise (a producer and actor), and had two children.
All's well that ends well, eh??
