Honduran President Manuel Zelaya Arrested

Honduran President Manuel Zelaya, who was arrested outside the presidential palace by soldiers on Sunday, is in Costa Rica and has asked for asylum, according to CNN.

Zelaya had provoked a political crisis after seeking to hold a vote on constitutional reforms that the Supreme Court of Honduras previously ruled illegal.

On Friday, the President lead a peaceful protest to pick up ballots from a military base in order to show he was going through with the planned vote today.

Protesters and supporters of Zelaya who gathered at the presidential palace were attacked with tear gas by the military.
