The House Of Representatives passed the bill containing new food safety laws on Thursday, something which lawmakers believe will have far reaching effects.
The legislation aims to make the process of approvals by the Food and Drug Administration ( FDA ) more stringent by requiring them to carry out more inspections at the food manufacturers' sites. The bill was passed by a huge Democratic support of 283 votes to 142.
This bill also gives the FDA the authority to recall food and drugs which are found to have problems. It cannot directly do it though since the bill states that it can only ask the companies to order the recall.
