Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki will meet US President Barack Obama on July 22 in Washington, D.C.
According to a White House statement released on Wednesday, the two leaders are scheduled to meet on July 22 to discuss a broad agenda of issues of mutual concern." The U.S. government under the leadership of Obama has been pressing the Iraqi government to take more responsibilty of the current unrest in the country so that more U.S. troops could be withdrawn soon.
The U.S. currently has about 128,000 troops deployed in Iraq. Large scale withdrawals began after Obama took control of the administration. Troops were withdrawn from urban cities and Iraqi forces were handed over the baton.
The U.S needs to pull out completely from Iraq by 2011 according to the security deal between both the governments.
