Kate Middleton's Pregnancy Confirmed, Hospitalized for Hyperemesis Gravidarum

The Royal Family is going to have a new heir! The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William Arthur Phillip Louis and Kate Middleton have confirmed they are expecting! Though they have yet to report when the baby is due, the pregnancy is off to an unexpected start with the Duchess hospitalized in London for hyperemesis gravidarum - or extreme morning sickness which causes vomiting, dehydration, and weight loss. The good news is Prince William is by her side and she is expected to be released "soon" with bed rest expected to follow.

An official statement released Monday, December 3, 2012 confirmed the pregnancy with: "Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby. The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both family are delighted with the news." As is the rest of the world.

The announcement follows changes to Britain's ruling policies during 2011 which grant females equal status with males in terms of succession. Which means Prince William and Kate's baby will be the first heir in history to take the throne regardless of gender. Many find the changes to legislation enacted by the British Cabinet Office during September 2012 regarding heirs signal a "new beginning" for Britain and its 14 foreign territories beyond the British Isles.
