Killer Bees Attack and Kill California Man

Killer bees attack and kill California man.  Fifty four year old Marco Lazaro was stung to death by a swarm of bees in Encinitas, California.  Lazaro was driving a backhoe on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at the intersection of Manchester Avenue and Pacific Ranch Drive when, at approximately 11:00 a.m., he inadvertently disturbed a hive full of at least 80,000 Africanized bees.  Lazaro attempted to escape the swarm by running to an outhouse.  When paramedics arrived on the scene, Lazaro had been stung well over 500 times and was in cardiac arrest.  Emergency response teams transported Lazaro to Scripps Encinitas Memorial Hospital where Lazaro was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Lazaro's twenty year old nephew witnessed the attack and was stung twice.  Lazaro's neighbor, Dan Moriarty, also witnessed the swarm and reported: "It was an accident, a terrible accident.  I was next door when it happened.  He's a very, very nice fellow.  Hard working guy."
