The legendary American screenwriter, novelist, and author Elmore Leonard has passed away in Detroit on August 20, 2013. The news of his passing was posted by his son Chris on the eighty seven year old's Facebook page with: "The post I dreaded to write, and you dreaded to read. Elmore passed away at 7:15 this morning from complications from his stroke. He was at home surrounded by his loving family." Leonard's death follows a severe stroke suffered on July 29, 2013. His condition quickly deteriorated after the stroke.
As the world of literature mourns the loss of the man who delivered such famed crime works as "Get Shorty," "3:10 to Yuma," "Rum Punch," "The Bounty Hunters," and many, many more, we can't help but celebrate his legacy. With a career spanning 4 decades, twenty six of Leonard's short stories and novels were adapted to motion picture and television - a treasure which will forever remain in the hearts of his millions.
