Pop singers Mariah Carey, Beyonce Knowles, and Usher Raymond IV have been linked to Libya's Muatassim Qaddafi, son of Libyan dictator Muammar Qaddafi. It seems that Mariah, Beyonce, and Usher were paid large sums of money to perform for Muatassim's annual New Year's Eve parties held on Saint Barthelemy (or St. Barts). Recent media reports indicate that Carey was paid $1 million to perform at a lavish fete hosted by the corrupt son of Qaddafi during 2009 and that Usher and Beyonce performed for the Libyan leader's son during 2010.
The three performers were interrogated following their performances but evaded any type of formal charges though their actions will be further questioned following WikiLeak's most recent cable indicating Muatassim's tendencies toward excessive spending and fondness for American pop music. Perhaps Carey, Knowles, and Raymond only added to and inadvertently contributed Libya's present state of unrest?
