Michael Bublé sported and engagement ring, or “man-gagement ring” at a concert on Tuesday, saying to the crowd that pre-wedding man-bands are traditional in Argentina, his fiancée's home country.
"The boy also wears the engagement ring (in Argentina)," 34-year-old Bublé said, showing his silver band on his left hand. "That's what she tells me anyway."
Bublé met his Argentinian girlfriend after a 2008 performance in Buenos Aires.
One of Bublé’s friends told People magazine that the head of his record label wanted to introduce the Canadian singer to "Argentina's most famous actress." "When he met her, he said it was love at first sight."
Luisana Loreley Lopilato de la Torre, the star of one of Argentina's most popular soap operas, has been dating Bublé since then. In 2009, Bublé proposed to 23-year-old Lopilato. The silky-voiced “Home” singer proposed to her in her native Argentina in front of her family.
Bublé reportedly designed the setting of her engagement ring.
In Argentina, pre-wedding traditions includes the bride- and groom-to-be wearing silver engagement rings, switching to gold once they actually wed.
Man-gagement rings are also worn in Norway and Finland.
