Seven inches of rain fell in Milwaukee on Thursday, July 22, 2010 that caused massive power outages, traffic interuptions, and sinkholes throughout the region.
A series of severe thunderstorms caused widespread flooding in southern Wisconsin. Residents reported streets in the downtown Milwaukee metro area transformed into rivers which flooded basements and wreaked havoc on sewer systems. Residents in Milwaukee, Jefferson, Washington, and Waukesha counties lost power, rendering 32,000 customers without electricity. The National Weather Service reported that several tornadoes touched down and the flooding will be worsened by rain predicted on Friday, July 23, 2010.
Area lakes have been closed until Sunday, July 25, 2010 because of potential contamination.
