National Margarita Day is today.
The Food Channel along with Jimmy Buffett and tequila fans around the globe are set to celebrate, despite today being Monday. The frozen Margarita is the most popular alcoholic beverage in America. 1971 marked the dawn of the first margarita machine, similar to soft serve ice cream machines.
The first Margarita was invented by Margarita Sames in 1948 at a party she threw at her home in Acapulco, Mexico. Apparently Sames was looking to cool off after a long day and she concocted the drink bearing her name with Tequila Herradure, Cointreau, and fresh lime juice. The drink was so good the socialite's party "lasted for two weeks!"
Whether you like your margaritas frozen, in the consistency of Slush Puppies, on the rocks, with or without salt, or flavored with fruit, today is your day to celebrate. Responsibly, of course...
