A New Jersey State Trooper was found fatally shot and found dead on June 16, 2010. The identity of the state trooper has not been released and details of the incident are vague. The officer's body was found in his patrol car parked in the Southbound Garden State Parkway ramp to Route 34 in Wall Township by a member of law enforcement.
Governor Chris Christie's representative, Michael Drewnaiak, confirmed that the officer had been shot. Authorities have closed down the ramp from southbound Garden State Parkway at Exit 98 and the ramp to Route 34 in an effort to further the investigation into the shooting incident. The New Jersey State Police Major Crimes Unit and the State Police Mobile Command Unit arrived on the scene after the officer's body was discovered at approximately 7:3o a.m. Local Wall police and officers from various law enforcement agencies, including a helicopter, have gathered to collect evidence. All calls have been deferred to NJ State Police.
State Police Sargent Stephen Jones stated that despite an investigation regarding the circumstances of the officers death, authorities are not searching for vehicles or suspects.
