Obama does The View in a surreal first ever television event. Obama graced the hit ABC talk show with the panel of hosts to discuss key issues like: pop culture, Blackberrys, Chelsea Clinton's wedding, controversial Shirley Sherrod, race and identiy issues in the U.S., and family life with his wife, Michelle, and kids, Sasha and Malia.
Obama's The View appearance was a record breaking moment as he was the first President to appear on a talk show despite heavy criticism from opponents. Obama appeared comfortable and in good spirits on the set with: Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behler, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and Sherri Shepherd. When the panel asked Obama the motivation behind his appearance, he claimed wife Michelle was the force as she's "a fan of the show."
Obama also went on to express his empathy for Americans living in such troubling economic times. Obama stated: "As much as you've been saying it's tough for me, the truth is, it's not tough for me. You know, I've got pundits on the news who might say things, but what the American people have gone through, losing jobs, seeing their home values go down, their 401Ks declining - those are the people that I draw inspiration from because I get letters every night from them and I read them."
