Shamsiddin Abdur-Raheem, of Sayreville, New Jersey, is in police custody after he reportedly threw his 3 month old daughter off of a bridge into a river. Rescue teams have been searching for the baby in the Raritan River between Sayreville and Woodbridge. The Driscoll Bridge is the location where the incident occurred. It is located on the Garden State Parkway, across the bay from New York's Staten Island.
Apparently an unresolved custody issue is to blame for Abdur-Raheem's actions. Abdur-Raheem supposedly took the baby from her grandmother in East Orange on Tuesday night and then fled with her. Abdur-Raheem is not married to the infants' mother. Police Lieutenant, Michael Hoffman, for the township of Winslow reported that Abdur-Raheem was in the southbound lane of the Driscoll Bridge when Abdur-Raheem admitted he "pulled over and threw his daughter off the bridge."
