Iconic 1980s era singer Rick Springfield was arrested for driving under the influence. Springfield was driving in Los Angeles, California on the evening of Sunday, May 1, 2011 when officers from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department pulled over the Jessie's Girl singer. The officers reported that the incident began as a minor traffic violation but later detected the smell of alcohol emanating from Springfield's vehicle. The officers issued a sobriety test and Springfield failed. Reports from TMZ and PEOPLE indicate Springfield's blood alcohol content (BAC) exceeded the legal limit of .02, and measured .10. Springfield was arrested and taken into custody. Springfield was released from the sheriff's station at 2:11 a.m. Springfield is expected to return to the Malibu Courthouse on July 5, 2011.
The release from the sheriff's report reads as follows:
"Rick Springfield came to the attention of a patrol deputy from the Malibu/Lost Hills Station as he accelerated rapidly from Heathercliff Road in his 1963 Corvette while driving on Pacific Coast Highway. Mr. Springfield was stopped near Trancas Canyon Road, and exhibited signs of alcoholic beverage intoxication He was administered field sobriety tests, which indicated his driving was impaired."
