Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and U2 frontman Bono met on Tuesday ahead of the bands’ first ever concert in the country this week. The two vowed to fight against the spread of polio during their discussion.
Russian television showed Medvedev meeting Bono for tea on the terrace of his holiday villa near the Black Sea resort town of Sochi.
Medvedev, who is a fan of classic rock bands Pink Floyd and Deep Purple, wore an open-necked shirt and clutched a pair of sunglasses for the meeting. Bono dressed more formally in a dark jacket and his trademark earring along with his sunglasses.
The two primarily discussed preventing the spread of polio and HIV, the RIA Novosti news agency said.
Bono arrived in Moscow on Sunday as part of the band's 360 Degree world tour and will perform their first concert in the country tonight.
