On Friday’s Today show appearance, Sarah Palin told Matt Lauer that Letterman doesn't owe her an apology for joking about her daughter. "He doesn't have to apologize to me. I would like to see him apologize to young women across the country for contributing to that thread throughout our culture that makes it seem OK to talk about ... statutory rape. It's not cool and it's not funny."
Letterman had made several jokes on Monday's monologue about the Palin family's visit to New York, including one about one of her daughters getting "knocked up" by Yankee third baseman Alex Rodriguez.
When Lauer brought up that Letterman clarified that he wasn't talking about her 14-year-old daughter Willow , but was targeting 18-year-old Bristol, Palin said, "I would say that you and anybody else are extremely naïve to believe David Letterman's very extremely convenient excuse.”
On Wednesday night, the talk-show host invited Palin to be a guest on his show, saying, "I think we could put these differences behind us." The offer was declined on Thursday.
