Shannon Meehan will be in Pennsylvania Saturday, March 6, 2010 for a booksigning at The Galleria's "GZ's Used Books & Art" from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Meehan is an Iraq war veteran who wrote "Beyond Duty: Life on the Front Line" with Roger Thompson. In "Beyond Duty: Life on the Front Line" Meehan highlights the plight of wounded at traumatized soldiers resulting from the Iraq war and the experience of treatment and rehabilitation at the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center. The book is a memoir of Meehan's own struggle and recovery. Meehan is a former Army Lieutenant and decorated tank commander stationed in Iraq. He led a "house by house clearing of suspected insurgents" and after calling in an airstrike, witnessed innocent Iraqi citizens deaths. Meehan suffered from a traumatic brain injury resulting from a later attack which combined with the horrors of the airstrike, caused severe depression and post traumatic stress.
Meehan found some relief through writing "Beyond Duty: Life on the Front Line" but continually suffers as a result of the tragedies.
